Days 11/12

Day 11

Today was more of the same, went to the orphanage and finished up the library we have put together. We bought a bunch of reading books and organized and cataloged the other books they already had. Some of us did some more teaching and singing with the kids, I helped with some of their math homework from school and played football when they had a break.

In the afternoon we went into town and wandered around. We did a bit of shopping and got some more cool sculptures, clothing and paintings. We also stocked up on some things for the orphanage such as movies and candy. We wanted to get them some puzzles but have yet to find any.

In the evening we went out to the Watering Hole a bar mainly for volunteers and watched a movie by the river. We saw many of the same people we met last Thursday. We had a really good dinner, plenty of drinks and a good time.

Day 12

Today was my day to teach for the morning session of about 10 kids. For the first half I had them work on drawing. I had them draw things that make them happy. Many of them drew pictures of the orphanage, the Tanzania Flag, Soccer, Animals and each other. After that we worked on math some more and I split them into groups according to skill level and gave them different assignments to work on.

In the afternoon we used that time to catch up on work we have for our classes and journals as well as some of the business projects I have been working on with the local tour company. We are finalizing setting up their new charity website as well as advertising their tours on facebook.

We stayed in this evening but got a bunch of bottles of wine and talked and played cards for most of the night.
