So I am now back in Moshi, Tanzania which feels like home now. The safari overall was amazing. After my last update we left the plush lodge at the top of the crater and headed to the Serengetti which is a true classic game park. It is enormous about the size of Connecticut. We stayed in the center of the park which is the best area in some luxury tents. There were showers and toilets and a huge main tent for meals. It was amazing to be living for three nights among the animals. At night you would hear Hyenas and other animals outside of your tent and during the day their where heards of Wildebeasts and Zebra migrating about 50 feet away. During the three days in the Serengetti we would wake up at 6am for an early morning game drive, have the afternoon to relax and then go on an evening game drive from 3:30 until dark.
We had amazing safari guides/drivers and were in huge Toyota Land Cruisers. We saw all of the big 5 which is rare. We got up close to a leaopard which never happens and saw Cheetahs hunting, tons of lions and lion cubs, Many kinds of gazelles, Antellopes, and all of the other usual suspects in a game park. I have some great pictures and not to mention that the scenary is amazing.
Today we went to the Kili Center for our final farewell and gave them candy and they performed some really awesome songs and dances. We took lots of pictures and made some presentations to the center. It is sad to leave the kids and many of them were sad to see us go. The time definitely flew by but it was a great experience.
We are now relaxing and preparing for our attempt to summit Mt. Killimanjaro in the morning. It is a 6 day physically exhausting hike to almost 19,500ft. We are hiking the Marangu route and if you are interested you can google it to get some more information. Wish me luck! I will write more when I return. I will try and post some more pictures on facebook tonight.
