Pre-Departure

This summer, before entering the real world I am planning to volunteer in Africa. I will begin by working at a youth development center called the kili Centre (www.kilicentre.org) in Moshi, Tanzania at the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro. A group of seven University of Georgia students will be working with me on this project.

In addition to mentoring and tutoring the children of the area, some of the projects we expect to be working on include: setting up a library; repairing and painting the Center; construction of a new kitchen, including new energy-saving stoves; and expanding the existing chicken coop. Other projects include: teaching English; HIV/AIDS education; assistance with the Center’s drama troupe; working in their garden and helping local entrepreneurs with business development.

I fly out of Atlanta on May 7th, I will try and keep you all updated on this project as often as possible.
